Credentials
Hairdresser. Counsellor. Advocate.
Sarah Lavelle is a dedicated and dynamic small business owner, hairdressing professional, registered counsellor, and community advocate. As Founder and Director of Lavelle Hair, she has built a respected and distinctive brand committed to cultural, physical, and psychological safety in service delivery.
Her approach combines technical excellence with inclusive, client-centred care — with expertise spanning disability, mental health, domestic and family violence, sensory needs, and cultural sensitivity. For Sarah, a haircut is never just a haircut.
Holding a Bachelor of Counselling, Sarah brings therapeutic understanding into every aspect of her practice. This unique combination of creative skill and clinical knowledge means her clients — whether adults navigating mental health challenges or children with sensory processing differences — are met with genuine expertise and genuine care.
With a unique blend of creativity, leadership, community engagement, professional expertise, and lived experience, Sarah continues to make a meaningful impact within her industry and in the lives of those she serves.
Community & Advocacy
Beyond the salon.
Sarah's commitment to people extends well beyond Lavelle Hair. She is actively involved in community, advocacy, and research work that reflects her belief that hair care is a fundamental part of dignity, wellbeing, and connection.
Hair Aid International
Sarah leads international and community outreach projects with Hair Aid, an Australian not-for-profit. She provides education and skills training in the Philippines and Cambodia, and delivers essential hair care services to vulnerable populations throughout Brisbane.
Autism Partnership
Sarah supports children on the autism spectrum through specialised hairdressing services — bringing her dual expertise in hair and counselling to create safe, positive experiences for children and their families.
Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital
Sarah recently completed a research project at the RBWH Mental Health Unit, exploring and quantifying the benefits of hair care during mental health admissions — bridging the gap between wellbeing and clinical care.
Y Schools Queensland
Sarah delivers immersive hairdressing programs for Y Schools Queensland, creating pathways for engagement, confidence, and skill development among young people who need it most.
Local Community
Rooted in Greenslopes.
Sarah is deeply embedded in the Greenslopes community — actively involved in local events, initiatives, and organisations, including her role as Secretary of Greenslopes Neighbourhood Watch. Since opening Lavelle Hair in 2010, she has been committed to fostering connection, inclusion, and wellbeing in the neighbourhood she calls home.
